Packing Books To Keep Them Safe During The Big Move
When packing up a house to get ready for a big move, books can be difficult to tackle. They are often heavy and sometimes awkward to properly fit in boxes. Following a few simple tips when packing books can make it easier and help to protect the possessions.
Before tackling the actual process of packing books, it is always helpful to sort through all the books. Try to eliminate as many unnecessary books as possible, because they are heavy and difficult to move. Any books that are not favorites and have been read to the person's satisfaction should be eliminated. Donating these items to Goodwill or the Salvation Army can help get a nice tax write off. Otherwise, selling them at a yard sale or giving them to a friend is always a good option.
When it comes time for actually packing books, it is important to determine how much weight each box can hold before loading it up with books. Adding too much weight to a box can cause it to break and create a moving disaster. Hard cover books can be packed with their spines down to maximize space. Make sure the boxes being used are not damp in any way because this can cause major damage to books.
There are several methods of protection when it comes to packing books. Slightly valuable books can be put in a brown paper bag to protect them from damage. For those books that are extremely valuable, bubble wrap should be used to prevent damage when being moved around. Any extra spaces in the boxes should be filled with bubble wrap or wadded up paper to minimize the amount of shifting that occurs within the box during transport.
Though packing books can sometimes be frustrating and annoying, there are a few way to eliminate the hassle. Packing fewer books can help reduce heavy lifting. In addition, there are several ways to make sure that books are well protected during the move.
